Earlier this year, the Growth Company joined forces with Red Flag Alert, a pioneering data intelligence platform – to develop Growth Flag, a first-of-its-kind, online tool designed with policy makers, commissioners, business decision-makers and analysts in mind.

Growth Flag pulls live data from a comprehensive dataset - that is easily analysed by the user - to instantly present clear visuals and downloadable data. This quickly shows where growth potential exists in individual businesses across the UK.

Hear from the Growth Flag team as they look back on the last six months and celebrate how far Growth Flag has come in this time.

From an idea to a game-changing, first-of-its-kind tool with a 93% success rate in predicting growth – we’re incredibly happy to be celebrating 6 Months of Growth Flag, and wow, what a 6 months it has been! We started off with a vision to drive change in economic development with a whole range of data points, and 6 months on there is still no other platform that can perform as well and identify growth in the same way that our system does. Let’s take a look back over #6monthsofGF…

We were lucky enough to officially launch Growth Flag at the Convention of the North back in January, where we received an overwhelmingly positive response to our tool. The team also offered free demos to attendees of the event, and even Mayor of Greater Manchester Andy Burnham came along to our stand for a sneak peek of the tool! The Growth Flag team ended the day on a high after a successful launch, with our team looking forward to what was to come next.

Over the past 6 months, we have onboarded some key clients such as Northern, University of Salford Business School and CLES (Centre for Local Economic Strategies). Each of our clients have been using Growth Flag to inform their own strategies when it comes to creating growth potential. We joined forces with Salford University Business School back in April to revolutionise their students learning, through inclusion of the tool in their student annex from September. Moreover, we discovered a new audience base and a multitude of new uses for Growth Flag through Northern joining our growing list of clients, such as helping the rail industry to better understand the transport needs of businesses and their employees. We enjoy collaborating with our clients and coming up with new ways to improve our tool through their valuable feedback.

Moreover, we also introduced some new features along the way, such as the Single Company Search Feature, which allows users to search for a specific company and gather effective data and insight on that company. Shortly afterwards, we introduced the ‘SIC sector search’ feature, which helps you break SIC sectors into more granular codes. SIC stands for ‘standard industrial classification’ and is a description of a company's nature of business. We are constantly trying to improve our tool and make it as robust as possible for our clients.

The team have also taken part in some exciting events over our 6-month journey, such as the UKREiiF 2023 event back in May, where our sales team were able to network with potential customers and showcase our game-changing tool to UKREiiF delegates. Furthermore, June saw our co-founder, Richard Jeffery, speaking at Small Biz Britain 2023 about the future for SMEs and sharing some of our tool’s insights that could improve this future.

We’ve also had the opportunity to take part in some exciting virtual events as well. The start of July saw us join forces with Red Flag Alert (1/2 of Growth Flag) on a joint webinar with Richard Jeffery (Co-Founder of Growth Flag and National Director of GC Business) and Dr Nicola Headlam (Chief Economist at Red Flag Alert). We looked at hot topic ‘Flagging Growth During an Economic Turndown’, focusing on growth, and how even in the current climate, it can still be found if you look in the right places.

It's safe to say that all the elements that have been the most interesting about Growth Flag, were not the things we thought we were setting out to do. We’ve have had the most interesting conversations with clients about the way they are using Growth Flag, and it’s often that growth exists on their patch in completely unexpected areas. As of this month, there are now 1.4 million companies in the UK with a growth score, that’s 1.4 million companies with ample growth potential.

We have received lots of valuable client feedback along the way, which has given us the ability to enhance our tool even further - we’re really looking forward to seeing what the next 6 months brings.
