On Wednesday 3rd August, the Growth Company welcomed Shadow Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, Jonathan Ashworth, to its Lee House site in central Manchester.

Mr Ashworth met with staff to discuss best practice around our employment provisions, particularly in regards to the Working Well: Work and Health Programme – a service which supports people with disabilities or complex health conditions into sustainable employment across Greater Manchester.

The visit included a round table discussion focusing on the success and lessons learned from the delivery of the Working Well: Work and Health and Programme, followed by an office tour where Mr Ashworth met with key workers, programme participants and members of the operational team. The morning concluded with a workshop.

Following the visit, Shadow Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, Jonathan Ashworth, said: “It was a pleasure to visit the Growth Company in Manchester today and see for myself the difference being made when it comes to opportunities for people in the city. We know that access to work is about more than just the ability to access roles, it’s about having the right support for when physical and mental health barriers exist. The staff and clients I spoke to gave me a huge amount of insight, and I’ll take away a lot from this visit.

It was also great to see all of this being delivered within a social enterprise model.”
