United for Ukraine Awareness Campaign

Formed in April 2022, United for Ukraine is a coalition of business stakeholders from across the north of England supporting thousands of vulnerable, Ukrainian refugees arriving in the UK. The initiative is focused around a digital platform, created by the Growth Company, which connects employers with evacuees.

A campaign was created by the coalition to raise awareness of the support being offered to Ukrainian refugees arriving in the country. Thanks to the awareness campaign, United for Ukraine has supported over 2,782 Ukrainians; over 150 employers have offered jobs; 400 jobs have been advertised on the site to date; the coalition has reached refugees across the North, including Yorkshire and the North East.

Weekly calls to the United for Ukraine service average between 40-60 and over 200 people have been successful in job starts through this campaign.

Due to the campaign, keyworkers received a ‘Special Honour’ and media coverage at the ‘Northern Power Women’ awards on 20 March 2023 for outstanding dedication.

Green Skills Academy Launch Event

Our Green Skills Academy was officially opened on Thursday 19 January, 2023 by the Mayor of Greater Manchester Andy Burnham.

The first of its kind in the UK, the Academy is a one-stop shop for learners who want to kick-start their careers in emerging technologies, and businesses looking to prepare their workforce for the transition to a carbon neutral economy.

The Academy worked with learners and partner organisations to create the launch event to raise awareness of the Academy within the community and build relationships with organisations looking to develop their workforce in green technologies.

To reflect the collaborative nature of the academy and the community effort required to achieve net zero targets, the team worked with learners and partners to develop the event- speaking to students to understand what net zero means to them to and creating a partnership board for the Academy.

Taking a carbon neutral approach, the Academy and the launch event were advertised digitally where possible, with the remainder of collateral printed on recycled materials and repurposed after the event to reduce the academy’s footprint. Those attending were also encouraged to travel by public transport on the day of the event.

Since the launch event, there have been over 120 learner applications to the Green Skills Academy.
