Learners put their skills to the test to mark World Refrigeration Day

On June 26, GC Education & Skills’ refrigeration apprentices celebrated World Refrigeration Day at an event held at the Practical Refrigeration Training Centre in Burnley.

The event was designed to promote learning and best practice, and was attended by some of the biggest names in the industry – including Toshiba and Mitie.

Students were encouraged to get involved with the day’s activities, which included the SkillFRIDGE competition to test their skills and learning.

Terry Collier, Technical Sector Director at GC Education and Skills, was there to experience the ‘hive of activity’. He said: “Whilst the captains of industry battled for supremacy, the rest of the refrigeration and air conditioning apprentices had the benefit of engaging in the event through networking with other providers, employers and industry experts. They were assigned tasks linked to the behaviours in their apprenticeship standard to maximise their learning experience from the event.”

One of the competitors, Ben Wilson, found the experience to be hugely beneficial. He said: “I believe the SkillFRIDGE competition provides an excellent avenue to be able to challenge and push yourself further. I was thrilled to be a part of it and the potential of reaching the final is a very exciting prospect.”

Well done to all our students who took part in the competition, and to the Practical Refrigeration Training Centre for putting on such a fantastic event.
