The week of the 7th February 2022 was National Apprenticeships Week across the UK and GC marked the occasion by featuring in the media and holding events aimed at supporting businesses and individuals.

Jon-Paul Rimington, Managing Director for GC Education & Skills, and Naomi Ilagoswa, Head of Strategic Partnerships and External Projects for GC, featured in both the Manchester Evening News and Business Live discussing GC’s work and promoting apprenticeships for businesses.
Jon-Paul believes that National Apprenticeship Week has certainly opened business eyes to the benefits of hiring apprentices.

“This week has been a huge opportunity for us at GC to showcase how beneficial apprenticeships can be for businesses as well as individuals. The two events we’ve held have attracted business leaders from across the North and I hope that they are able to take away from it how apprenticeships are so often the backbone of a skilled workforce,” he said.

“It’s also so important for businesses to come together and share ideas, learn from each other’s experiences and hopefully this will lead to an increase in those taking on apprentices.”

There were also two major events held. The first, an in-person ‘Build the Future with Apprenticeships’ event, was staged by Skills for Growth- SME Support on Wednesday 9th February at the Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce building. The event saw business leaders presented with the latest support and funding that was available for those wishing to hire apprentices. Industry experts and business leaders who have incorporated apprenticeship strategy into their organisations also spoke at the event.

The second event, a webinar hosted by GC on Thursday 10th February attracted brought together business leaders to discuss current workforce skills gaps and how recruiting apprentices can help meet future skills demands.
