The Growth Company Employment has been shortlisted for the Just Transition to Net Zero award and the Energy Innovation Agency has been shortlisted for the Innovation of the Year: Technologies & Projects award at this year’s edie Net Zero Awards!
The edie Net-Zero Awards recognise and reward the individuals and organisations that are spearheading the transition towards a net-zero carbon economy.
The Just Transition to Net Zero award celebrates organisations that are championing and embedding social sustainability into decabonisation projects.
GC Employment has been recognised for its commitment to sustainability and how it is leading the way for the whole organisation through its innovative approach to reducing the business unit’s carbon footprint whilst also positively impacting the communities we work in.
Michelle Leeson, Director of Employment at the Growth Company, said: “The Growth Company is committed to reaching net zero by 2035, ahead of the UK government's national target. To make sure that we meet this goal, we are transforming the way that we work, from making small everyday changes to implementing big sustainability initiatives such as carbon literacy training and our network of green champions.
"In the end, it's not just about reducing our own carbon footprint – we aim to support our partners, stakeholders, and participants in cutting theirs, too. We're thrilled and honoured to be nominated for this edie Award because it recognises both the progress we've made and our long-term vision.”
The Innovation of the Year award celebrates organisations that have championed a particularly innovative technology, service and/or business model which holds the potential to decarbonise business and drive us towards net-zero.
The Agency is a unique collaboration between eight partners bringing together the region’s exceptional public and academic sectors with the entrepreneurship and investment of industry to accelerate the scale and pace of carbon reductions by matching innovations against the challenges faced by business.
As an innovative vehicle, the Agency is accelerating the commercialisation of energy innovations and the reduction of carbon emissions in the Greater Manchester (GM) city-region and has already secured over £3 million in funding and helped early-stage innovators secure a further Euros 3M, attracting inward investment from start-ups, VC investment and is supporting end-user site decarbonisation.
David Schiele, Director of the Energy Innovation Agency, said: “We are incredibly proud to be a finalist for this award, and to have been shortlisted for a second time by Edie. The Agency’s innovative business model combines the broad contributions, networks, and expertise from the public, private, and academic sectors with an experienced and dynamic team to rapidly accelerate Greater Manchester’s decarbonisation efforts, enabling businesses to access and implement low-carbon solutions, more effectively, and help innovators commercialise more rapidly.
“This achievement is a testament to the hard work of the team and the progress we have already made in the region and a great motivator as we continue to grow our offer, support more businesses - innovators on their commercial journey, and end-user businesses on their decarbonisation journey, helping drive Greater Manchester towards its 2038 carbon neutral city-region target .”
The Awards ceremony will take place on Friday 29 November at Convene, London.
