Frequently asked questions

MBacc Modern Work Experience is Greater Manchester’s approach to giving young people aged 11 to 16 high-quality, meaningful experiences of the workplace.

It aims to build up to 10 days of work experience for young people over their time in secondary education, through visits, virtual sessions, employer led projects and other work experience opportunities.

MBacc Modern Work Experience helps young people aged 11 to 16 learn about working life during secondary school. Activities can include visits to workplaces, work shadowing, projects set by employers, online sessions and placements. Young people build up their experience through a range of activities over time. Employers can choose how to take part, from a single visit to a longer placement.

The Greater Manchester Baccalaureate (MBacc) aims to guarantee every young person growing up in our city region has a clear path and line of sight to the good jobs and training opportunities, here in Greater Manchester.

This will be driven by a system that values technical education as a prestigious route and connects young people to employers through seven MBacc sector gateways — helping them understand the skills they need and how to reach opportunities in our fastest-growing sectors.
