This week, 3rd – 9th of March, is Repair Week, a week-long celebration of repair where repair groups and businesses host events to encourage people to try fixing instead of throwing away.
Repair Week was started by ReLondon in 2020, and Recycle for Greater Manchester became a partner in 2023, to help people learn valuable repair skills, save money, and contribute to a healthier planet – all while falling back in love with your stuff.
Fixing instead of throwing away means we can love things for longer, save cash, and stop things from ending up as rubbish. In Greater Manchester, an estimated £417 million worth of repairable items were thrown away last year.
To celebrate Repair Week, Recycle for Greater Manchester has collated a list of events held by local repair heroes from community groups and businesses. Take a look at the events
Although Repair Week is not celebrated in every city, there are Repair Cafes and workshops throughout the country which can help you with repairs you don’t feel comfortable attempting alone.
Repair Cafes are regular community events that you can attend with your items, including clothing, furniture, electricals and more, and access the tools and materials you need to make repairs, you can also meet experts with the skills you need and access their support.
There are Repair Cafes in many places across the UK, take a look at this map to find one near you
