No Mow May is an annual campaign urging everyone with a lawn to put away their mowers and let wildflowers grow freely in May.

Approximately 97% of flower-rich meadows have been lost since the 1930s, and with them, vital food and habitat needed by wildlife.

A healthy lawn with some longer grass and wildflowers helps to tackle pollution, benefits wildlife and can even lock away carbon below the ground.

There are more than 20 million gardens in the UK, so even the smallest grassy patches can provide vital food for bees and butterflies, giving them the best start to summer.

Colleague Grace Watson took part in No Mow May last year. She enjoyed the opportunity to provide a feast for pollinators, tackle pollution, reduce urban heat extremes and lock away atmospheric carbon below ground.

Whether you’re in a city, town or the countryside, it’s super easy to take part. Just sit back and watch the wildlife bloom in your garden or green space.
