Zero Waste Week (September 1st - 5th) is a great opportunity to rethink how we use resources at work and at home and explore simple ways to reduce waste.
Whether you're a seasoned sustainability champion or just starting out, small changes really do add up.
Here are some easy, everyday tips to help you make a difference this Zero Waste Week:
Swap single-use items for reusables. A reusable water bottle, coffee cup, or lunchbox can save hundreds of disposables from landfill each year. Plus, many cafés offer discounts when you bring your own cup!
Before buying something new, consider if you really need to purchase the item or if you can borrow or buy second-hand instead. If you do need to buy something new, choosing quality items that will last a while helps reduce waste and will save you money in the long run.
Opt for refillable cleaning products or make your own using simple ingredients like vinegar and bicarbonate of soda. It’s cheaper, greener, and surprisingly effective!
Food waste is a huge issue, but a lot can be avoided by simple habit changes, such as planning meals and getting creative with leftovers.

Buying loose produce instead of pre-packaged options helps cut down on unnecessary plastic. Many supermarkets now offer paper bags or allow you to bring your own reusable produce bags. It’s also a great way to buy just what you need, reducing food waste and saving money.
Print only when necessary, recycle properly, and consider setting up a stationery swap to reuse pens, folders, and other supplies.
Recycling is an essential part of the fight against climate change and promotes global sustainability. It’s projected to save over a billion tonnes of CO2 emissions by 2030.
Recycling rules can vary, so it’s worth checking what goes where. Learn more about recycling at GC
