Global Recycling Day was on March 18th, giving us the perfect opportunity to reflect on our recycling efforts and refresh our knowledge of the items that can and can't be recycled.

Recycling is an essential part of the fight against climate change and promotes global sustainability. It’s projected to save over a billion tonnes of CO2 emissions by 2030.

By recycling, we can save energy, decrease greenhouse gas emissions, and minimise the impact on our ecosystems. Every small action counts, and together, we can make a big impact.

How you can get involved

We recently announced that food waste bins would be arriving in all of our office locations in line with new waste legislation that comes into action on 31st March.

The new Simpler Recycling legislation means that office recycling is becoming more like home recycling.

As a reminder, these are the different options for waste disposal at our offices. Please refer to your local council website for your home recycling rules.

Consider other options first

Although recycling is a useful way to minimise the environmental impact of waste, it’s important to remember that throwing an item away should be a last resort when the item has truly reached the end of its life.

Before that point, you could try to repair an item or get creative and find innovative ways to reuse it.

Many colleagues have come up with creative ways to reuse items to stop them from going to waste. Last year, colleagues and learners in our GM SkillCentre reused leftover wood and other materials to fundraise for a local hospice, raising over £200. Find out more
