Today (8 May), marks National Day for Staff Networks, a day dedicated to recognising the value that networks add to the workplace.

At the Growth Company, we offer colleagues the opportunity to get involved with various networks from our environmental group through to our EDI networks.

We have eight EDI Networks which help promote and recognise the value that EDI brings to our organisation whilst raising awareness of important issues and areas of interest to our colleagues.

Our eight EDI Networks are:

  • Age
  • EmbRace
  • Health and Wellbeing
    • Subgroups:
      • Menopause Support Group
      • Mental Health Champion Support Group
      • Neurodiversity Support Group
      • Neurodiversity Champion Support Group
  • LGBTQ+
  • Parent and Carers
  • Women
  • Religion and Faith
  • Military Veteran and Reservists

We asked some of our EDI Network Chairs why they enjoy being part of our EDI Networks and this is what they had to say:

Nick Williams, Co-Chair of Military Veteran and Reservists EDI Network:

"The reason I enjoy being the Co-Chair of the Veterans & Reservists EDI Network is that it gives me and the other members of GC who have served or have family, sons, daughters, parents who have served to connect with people who share similar backgrounds, experiences in a safe and supportive space and tell our stories. The Armed Forces has a very close-knit culture, underpinned by its values. It is very much a siblinghood with its own language, jokes and traditions which you become accustomed and connected to during service, this network allows us all to continue these traditions, reminisce and support one another as well as raise awareness for the wider Armed Forces Community and the struggles they come up against in day-to-day life."

Naomi Ilagoswa, Co-Chair of Parents and Carers EDI Network:

"I love being able to create a safe space for caring colleagues to share their experiences and benefit from peer support. I'm also proud that we can drive change within GC and support us to become a more caring friendly organisation."

Cheryl Madden, Chair of Health and Wellbeing EDI Network:

"I love being part of the networks as they are a great way to meet others from across the business who I might not have come across otherwise. I find it interesting hearing about other people’s lived experiences and think the networks provide a great support through peer-to-peer communities for those with lived experience as well as allies. It’s really helped me to increase my understanding and empathy for others from all different backgrounds – realising the importance of getting to know individuals as no two people are the same. I feel inspired listening to the challenges that so many colleagues have had to overcome and the passion and resilience they have; acting as role models to others across GC."

Nadir Sultan, Co-Chair of Religion and Faith EDI Network:

"I joined the Growth Company EDI Network to help contribute towards a more inclusive and diverse way of operating for the business. When I heard of this network, I thought I could help colleagues by listening to their needs and feeding this back to the wider group to instigate change in a positive way for colleagues. Now 18 months in to being involved in the network, it was everything I imagined and more! I never thought I would learn so much about the circumstances and challenges people face on a daily basis so has been a real eye opener for me! I would encourage anyone interested in joining the network to come along for some network meetings as they are very interesting and thought provoking."
